Welcome to All Parts

Niki-9064.jpg

"To come to ground is to find a home in circumstances and in the very physical body we inhabit...to begin the courageous conversation – to step into difficulty and by taking that first step, begin the movement through all difficulties – to find the support and foundation that has been beneath our feet all along: a place to step onto, a place on which to stand and a place from which to step."

David Whyte

Somatic Psychotherapist, Space Holder & Educator

I believe in your ability to live at ease. You have known ease and you have known hurt; I work with both parts. We are not only our painful lived experiences; we are our joyful ones too.  When we are in distress it is difficult to access  pleasure and ease and part of our work together is to slowly recover those parts of you. To know that despite the pains that are part of our experience in this world, there are also the joys, the glimmers, the simple things that remind us of what it means to live a life at ease.

From climbing the rocks at Killiney beach as a little girl, the sea has  always been a gentle reminder of my capacity to live at ease. The Irish seas have held me through periods of intense grief, loss and pain and lifted me through joyous playful moments of pure connection. When you’re playing in the waves you can’t help but laugh and smile.

The analogy of the sea has helped me make sense of my own therapeutic journey. At times the waves have engulfed me, threatening to drown but through a renewed sense of self, strength and rediscovery of my own version of ease, I am learning how to catch those waves and safely bring myself home to shore. It’s not always easy and on some days it feels impossible and in those moments I try to meet myself with as much compassion as I offer my clients. It is my hope for you that you can reach an expression of safety that allows you to trust yourself again and your ability to find a home within yourself. And on those days where this is not within your reach, you have the capacity to recognise your strength to survive no matter what the circumstances.

My Approach

Niki-9674.jpg

Therapy is a commitment to enter into a relationship with another human, two people with their own lived experiences. This therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all therapeutic work. It is important that you find the right person to explore this journey with.

I work with the person, not the symptoms. I believe that when you seek out therapy you believe that the tools that previously supported you in your life no longer serve you. Life feels hard and far removed from the one you hoped for yourself. I am first and foremost a humanistic therapist which means the work we do together puts you at the heart of your healing; nobody knows your life better than you. My focus is on collaboration and communication in the therapeutic relationship led by guidance and curiosity. My hope for you is that through welcoming all parts of yourself, both painful and joyful, you can begin to live a life at ease once more.

My approach weaves in somatic work to uncover the survival strategies that your nervous system has adapted to help you survive, to protect you. I work gently with you to expand your capacity to respond from a safer space with agency and attunement. Because I believe in your innate capacity to thrive and live a life full of joy and meaning.

Yoga brings me home, home to self, to breathe, to expression.
